2008 has started with a season high rainfall and dropping interest rates. The low supply of homes for sale in most of the Westside of Los Angeles has kept property values stable and holding most of its value. The most popular types of homes are those which have already been remodeled or ones located in unique locations like those with a view, within blocks of shopping/eateries and some that are in a popular school district. There are exceptions especially in neighbhorhood pockets of Venice, Mar Vista and Santa Monica which have created "compound" type properties with home, studio, workout areas and restoring landscape.
Many of the current buyers are looking for a property that needs a little work or one that will be easier to maintain in the future. The properties that need upgrading are still in demand, however, move-in condition homes are much more in demand. Many buyers have busy schedules that enable them to pay more, but not be able to dedicate time and energy on a remodeling project. There are a variety of homes in the Westside of Los Angeles which all have the mild climate, but the styles range from Spanish to Mid-Century tract homes.
The Westside of Los Angeles has always been a popular place because of a dynamic job market including many studios, law offices and design companies. We in the Westside are able to save time in our daily commutes and our days off to the beach and the many Westside shopping centers (Westside Pavilion, Marina del Rey, Century City, many more).
As you assess your housing plans, the more features your property has the greater chances for you to benefit. The benefits can be a direct as financial, however, there are emotional benefits of a home and one that inspires.
